Students engaged in a Water Challenge activity to playfully explore unequal opportunity with the added context of the activity involving such a vital resource.
Prior to the challenge, students brainstormed their understanding of equity and equality. Each team was required to collect water from the same source — equal distance using a variety of gathering vessels. Some of the vessel were tiny, some had holes. Throughout the challenge equity was introduced in the form of additional supports or reducing their ability to gather water by limiting movement. After the challenge, students wrote reflections using two cartoons.
